Mission Statement

Mission: Transform women from consumers into champions of eco-sustainability.

Women BLEED so that the human race can continue to thrive on this planet. Sadly, for most women, experiencing this natural life-giving phenomenon is nothing short of traumatic.

Eco Period pledges to end period poverty in all its forms, by transforming women into eco-warriors who not only practise but also champion eco-sustainable life-styles and practices, starting with eco-sustainable menstruation.

Eco Period acknowledges period poverty in all its forms - period taboos, lack of period awareness and education, inaccessible period products, and social inequity faced by women only because they menstruate. Eco Period also recognises that the use of industrially manufactured plastic sanitary pads and tampons is today a bigger cause of concern for women's health as well as the health of the planet.

In the age of 21st century consumerism, information regarding health and environmental hazards of using plastic pads still remains inaccessible to the multitude of women who use them. With 900 million young girls and women across the globe menstruating on any given day, the need for awareness on the ill effects of synthetic pads, both on user and environmental health, becomes imminent due to the scale at which its implication is felt.

The rampant use of synthetic pads which contain genetically-modified cotton fibre and petroleum derivatives like plastics and polymers does not spell the end of period poverty. Instead, it opens up the floodgates to disaster.

Period poverty will truly end when, well-equipped with knowledge of their own well being and the well being of Mother Earth, every woman uses eco-sustainable period products - products that are reusable and biodegradable.

Our mission is to make the current unsustainable practices sustainable by creating awareness at an impactful scale and by making eco-sustainable period products readily available. Eco Period seeks to economically empower women at the grassroots level by creating self help groups that manufacture reusable and biodegradable period products, like menstrual cups, reusable organic pads and period panties, which are cost efficient and pocket friendly on the users as well.

Studies suggest that women are responsible for most household purchases including clothing, furnishings, food, healthcare products etc., which together with menstrual waste are a major contributor to environmental pollution.

Eco Period strongly believes that when women practice eco-sustainability at a level as personal and as intimate as their menses, they truly become conscious of their carbon footprint, resulting in their making well-informed, sustainable choices in other aspects of their lives as well.

If every woman consciously made even one personal practice sustainable, the impact of their collective actions would be felt across habitats and ecosystems the world over, besides its positive impact on their individual healths.

Eco Period believes that women can claim an equitable stake on planet Earth through the practice of eco-consumption.
